A New Era for Philanthropy: Leading Through Complexity

As geopolitical conflicts and partnerships, climate pressure, demographic change and technological disruption reshape the global landscape, philanthropy is being called to operate in more complex and contested conditions. At the same time, shifting patterns of official development assistance and growing demands on governments and community organisations are redefining what philanthropy can and must contribute.

In this keynote, Helen Clark brings decades of leadership across public service, multilateral diplomacy and international development to examine the kind of leadership philanthropy needs today, not only to navigate uncertainty, but to take bold, strategic leaps forward. She will also reflect on how the core values of sport—excellence, respect, and teamwork—can serve as institutional disciplines shaping how philanthropic organisations set priorities, forge partnerships, manage risk and remain accountable to the communities they serve.

Building on her experience as former Prime Minister of New Zealand, the first woman to lead the United Nations Development Programme, and a long-time supporter and patron of New Zealand’s signature sports, Clark will make a call to move forward with courage and conviction—advancing a more inclusive, resilient and sustainable future, and truly leaping for impact.
